Exit of an icon: Alaafin of Oyo, End of an Era

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has described the death of the Alaafin of Oyo, Aged 83, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, as the end of a remarkable, great and glorious era.

Oba Balogun expressed shock at hearing the news of the Oyo king, in a statement personally signed by the monarch and also made available to the newsmen, he brought back the memory of when they last saw each other and that was at the Oba balogun, Coronation ceremony last month in Ibadan.


Olubadan and other dignitaries speaks highly of Alaafin and described the late Alaafin as a royal father per excellence, who projected Yoruba culture and civilization with dignity, noting that with his exit, Yoruba has lost a rare gem.



“A highly scholarly, pragmatic and dynamic monarch with undiluted love for his race and people, Alaafin would be sorely missed by humanity for his contributions and good deeds which would continue to speak for him eternally.
